YOUR GUIDE
เคฏเคน เคเคช เค•เฅเคฏเคพ เคนเฅˆ?
aiSwadhyay Sanskrit is a grammar-first Sanskrit learning companion designed for students of Classes 6โ€“10 and anyone beginning their Sanskrit journey. The name aiSwadhyay means self-study powered by AI โ€” svฤdhyฤya being one of the niyamas in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, meaning disciplined self-study and reflection.

The app covers the full CBSE Sanskrit grammar syllabus through structured lessons, spaced repetition flashcards, and eight types of practice activities โ€” all in one offline file, with no account, no ads, and no subscription.
เคธเค‚เคธเฅเค•เฅƒเคค เค•เฅเคฏเฅ‹เค‚?
Sanskrit is the oldest continuously used literary language in the world and the foundation of most Indian languages. Its grammar โ€” systematised by the great grammarian Pฤแน‡ini 2,500 years ago โ€” is so precise and logical that mastering it sharpens thinking in a way few subjects do.

Sanskrit unlocks the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gฤซtฤ, the Rฤmฤyaแน‡a, and the Mahฤbhฤrata in their original voice. For yoga students, Ayurveda practitioners, and anyone connected to Indian philosophy, Sanskrit is the key.
เคฏเคน เคเคช เค•เฅˆเคธเฅ‡ เค•เคพเคฎ เค•เคฐเคคเคพ เคนเฅˆ?
The app uses a proven three-layer learning approach:

๐Ÿ“š Lessons build the concept from first principles with examples and exercises.

๐ŸŽฏ Practice reinforces each concept through eight activity types โ€” from multiple choice to sentence building to listening.

๐Ÿƒ SRS Flashcards use spaced repetition (SM-2 algorithm) to move vocabulary and grammar into long-term memory. Cards you find easy appear less often; hard ones more often. This is the same science used by medical students to memorise thousands of facts.

Every practice answer links back to the relevant lesson, so you can always understand why an answer is correct.

IAST เคฐเฅ‹เคฎเคจ เคฒเคฟเคชเคฟ
The app shows Devanagari script alongside IAST romanisation (International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration). IAST precisely represents every Sanskrit sound using diacritical marks โ€” e.g. ฤ (long a), แนญ (retroflex t), ล› (palatal sh). This helps learners connect pronunciation with spelling before Devanagari becomes second nature.

GUIDE โ–พ
How to use this app
The app has seven sections accessible from the bottom navigation bar:

๐Ÿ“š เค…เคงเฅเคฏเคฏเคจ โ€” Spaced repetition flashcards. Swipe or tap to reveal the answer, then rate yourself: Again (needs more practice), Good (right), or Great (very confident).

๐Ÿ”ค เคตเฅเคฏเคพเค•เคฐเคฃ โ€” Grammar reference: alphabet, numbers, declension tables, and topic-wise lessons with examples.

๐ŸŽฏ เค…เคญเฅเคฏเคพเคธ โ€” Eight types of practice activities: translation, fill-in-the-blank, matching, comprehension, and more.

๐Ÿ’ฌ เคธเค‚เคตเคพเคฆ โ€” Guided conversation modules with real Sanskrit dialogues and grammar notes.

๐Ÿ“‹ เคชเคพเค  โ€” Structured lessons by level. Tap any lesson to study it.

๐Ÿ“Š เคชเฅเคฐเค—เคคเคฟ โ€” Your streak, mastery percentage, and card breakdown by topic.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ เค—เฅเคฐเฅเค•เฅเคฒ โ€” Achievements, daily challenges, and your collection of Sanskrit verses.
How does the flashcard (SRS) system work?
The app uses Spaced Repetition (SRS) โ€” a proven memory technique. Cards you find easy are shown less frequently; cards you find hard come back sooner.

When you see a card, think of the answer, then tap to flip. Rate yourself honestly:
โ€ข Again โ€” you forgot or got it wrong. Card returns in ~1 minute.
โ€ข Good โ€” you got it right with some effort.
โ€ข Great โ€” you got it easily. Card interval grows significantly.

Cards become Mature (โœจ) once their interval exceeds 21 days โ€” that means the knowledge is entering long-term memory. Your mastery % on the Progress screen tracks mature cards.
Guide to IAST transliteration
IAST (International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration) lets you read Sanskrit sounds precisely without knowing Devanagari. Key marks:

Long vowels: ฤ (เค†), ฤซ (เคˆ), ลซ (เคŠ) โ€” held twice as long as short vowels.
Retroflexes: แนญ แนญh แธ แธh แน‡ โ€” dot below, tongue curled back.
Palatals: ล› (เคถ) = "sh"; c (เคš) = "ch"; j (เคœ) = "j".
Sibilants: s (เคธ) = dental "s"; ล› (เคถ) = palatal "sh"; แนฃ (เคท) = retroflex "sh".
Aspirates: kh, gh, ch, jh, แนญh, แธh, th, dh, ph, bh โ€” the h is always pronounced as a breath.
Anusvฤra: แนƒ (เค‚) โ€” nasal sound before consonants.
Visarga: แธฅ (เคƒ) โ€” a light breath at the end of a word, like "Rฤmaแธฅ".

Tip: Start by learning just ฤ, ฤซ, ลซ and the retroflex dots โ€” these cover most of the differences from English spelling.
Sources โ€” where does the knowledge come from?
The app's vocabulary, grammar, and example sentences draw on a tradition of classical Sanskrit scholarship spanning over 2,500 years. Key sources include:

เค…เคทเฅเคŸเคพเคงเฅเคฏเคพเคฏเฅ€ (Aแนฃแนญฤdhyฤyฤซ) โ€” Pฤแน‡ini's foundational grammar (~500 BCE), the most precise linguistic treatise ever written. The 4,000 sลซtras underlie all Sanskrit grammar rules in the app.

เค…เคฎเคฐเค•เฅ‹เคถ (Amarakoล›a) โ€” The classical Sanskrit thesaurus (~4thโ€“5th century CE) by Amarasiแนƒha. A primary source for vocabulary organisation by topic.

เคฎเคนเคพเคญเคพเคทเฅเคฏ (Mahฤbhฤแนฃya) โ€” Pataรฑjali's great commentary on Pฤแน‡ini (~2nd century BCE). Used for understanding grammatical rules in context.

เคธเคฟเคฆเฅเคงเคพเคจเฅเคคเค•เฅŒเคฎเฅเคฆเฅ€ (Siddhฤntakaumudฤซ) โ€” Bhaแนญแนญoji Dฤซkแนฃita's reorganisation of Pฤแน‡inian grammar (17th century CE), the standard teaching text used in modern Sanskrit classrooms.

เคฐเค˜เฅเคตเค‚เคถ, เคฎเฅ‡เค˜เคฆเฅ‚เคค, เค…เคญเคฟเคœเฅเคžเคพเคจเคถเคพเค•เฅเคจเฅเคคเคฒเคฎเฅ โ€” Works of Kฤlidฤsa (4thโ€“5th century CE), from which illustrative example sentences and the verse collection are drawn.

Modern scholarship โ€” Monier-Williams Sanskritโ€“English Dictionary (1899), Arthur Macdonell's Sanskrit Grammar, and Whitney's Sanskrit Grammar have informed definitions and explanations.

All factual content โ€” words, meanings, grammar rules, verse attributions โ€” belongs to this shared classical heritage and is not proprietary to any single modern source.

FAQ โ–พ
Is this app aligned with the CBSE Sanskrit syllabus?
Yes. The three tracks map directly to the CBSE Sanskrit syllabus for Classes 6โ€“10. The Beginner track covers Classes 6โ€“7, Intermediate covers Classes 8โ€“9, and Advanced covers Class 9โ€“10 board-exam content including all required grammar topics โ€” vibhakti, sandhi, samฤsa, kแน›danta, and reading comprehension.
How accurate is the Sanskrit content?
The grammar explanations follow standard Pฤแน‡inian terminology and NCERT conventions. All content has been written with care, but Sanskrit is a deep subject. If you spot an error, please write to us โ€” we take corrections seriously and update the app promptly.
Does the app work offline? Is my data private?
The app is a single HTML file โ€” it works entirely offline after the first load. All your progress is stored only on your device using your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to any server. We collect no data, track no users, and have no analytics.
How do the paid tracks work? Is it a subscription?
No subscription. The Intermediate (โ‚น149) and Advanced (โ‚น199) tracks are one-time purchases that unlock permanently on your device. A bundle with all three tracks is also available at โ‚น299. Global pricing is $2.99 / $3.99 / $5.99 respectively.

If you've supported the app as a เคœเคฟเคœเฅเคžเคพเคธเฅ (โ‚น49) or เคธเคพเคงเค• (โ‚น98 total), your contribution is credited toward content unlocks โ€” so Intermediate costs just โ‚น51 more for a เคธเคพเคงเค•.
I found a mistake โ€” how do I report it?
Please email samskritam.swadhyaya@gmail.com with the lesson name, the incorrect content, and what you believe the correct version should be. We respond to all correction reports within a few days.
Can I use this alongside my school textbook?
Absolutely โ€” that is the intended use. The lessons follow the same sequence as the NCERT Ruchira series. Use the app to understand grammar concepts deeply, then apply them to your textbook exercises. The SRS flashcards are especially useful before exams.
Is Devanagari script required? I can't read it yet.
Not at all. Every word and example appears in both Devanagari and IAST romanisation. You can follow the entire Beginner track using IAST alone. Devanagari becomes natural gradually โ€” the app is designed so that the two scripts reinforce each other.
Will there be more content? What's coming next?
Yes. Planned additions include a conversational Sanskrit module (เคธเค‚เคตเคพเคฆ-เคชเคฅ), a Gurukul gamification layer, verse memorisation tools for Bhagavad Gฤซtฤ and Hitopadeล›a, and Hindi / Marathi Swadhyaya companion apps. Paid-track users get all content updates free.
