YOUR GUIDE
यह ऐप क्या है?
aiSwadhyay — Win Sanskrit is a grammar-first Sanskrit learning companion designed for students of Classes 6–10 and anyone beginning their Sanskrit journey. The name aiSwadhyay means self-study powered by AI — svādhyāya being one of the niyamas in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, meaning disciplined self-study and reflection.

The app is built around spaced repetition — a scientifically proven method that schedules each card at the precise moment you are about to forget it, turning short-term recall into lasting memory. It covers the full CBSE Sanskrit grammar syllabus through structured lessons, SRS flashcards, and eight types of practice activities — all in one offline file, with no account, no ads, and no subscription.
संस्कृत क्यों?
Sanskrit is the oldest continuously used literary language in the world and the foundation of most Indian languages. Its grammar — systematised by the great grammarian Pāṇini 2,500 years ago — is so precise and logical that mastering it sharpens thinking in a way few subjects do.

Sanskrit unlocks the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gītā, the Rāmāyaṇa, and the Mahābhārata in their original voice. For yoga students, Ayurveda practitioners, and anyone connected to Indian philosophy, Sanskrit is the key.
यह ऐप कैसे काम करता है?
The app uses a proven three-layer learning approach:

📚 Lessons build the concept from first principles with examples and exercises.

🎯 Practice reinforces each concept through eight activity types — from multiple choice to sentence building to listening.

🃏 SRS Flashcards use spaced repetition (SM-2 algorithm) to move vocabulary and grammar into long-term memory. Cards you find easy appear less often; hard ones more often. This is the same science used by medical students to memorise thousands of facts.

Every practice answer links back to the relevant lesson, so you can always understand why an answer is correct.
किसके लिए?
• CBSE / ICSE / State board students, Classes 6–10
• Parents supporting children with Sanskrit homework
• Yoga and Vedanta students wanting a grammar foundation
• Heritage learners reconnecting with the language
• Anyone curious about the world's most precisely structured language
IAST रोमन लिपि
The app shows Devanagari script alongside IAST romanisation (International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration). IAST precisely represents every Sanskrit sound using diacritical marks — e.g. ā (long a), ṭ (retroflex t), ś (palatal sh). This helps learners connect pronunciation with spelling before Devanagari becomes second nature.

GUIDE ▾
How to use this app
The app has seven sections accessible from the bottom navigation bar:

📚 अध्ययन — Spaced repetition flashcards. Swipe or tap to reveal the answer, then rate yourself: Again (needs more practice), Good (right), or Great (very confident).

🔤 व्याकरण — Grammar reference: alphabet, numbers, declension tables, and topic-wise lessons with examples.

🎯 अभ्यास — Eight types of practice activities: translation, fill-in-the-blank, matching, comprehension, and more.

💬 संवाद — Guided conversation modules with real Sanskrit dialogues and grammar notes.

📋 पाठ — Structured lessons by level. Tap any lesson to study it.

📊 प्रगति — Your streak, mastery percentage, and card breakdown by topic.

🏛️ गुरुकुल — Achievements, daily challenges, and your collection of Sanskrit verses.
How does the flashcard (SRS) system work?
The app uses Spaced Repetition (SRS) — a proven memory technique. Cards you find easy are shown less frequently; cards you find hard come back sooner.

When you see a card, think of the answer, then tap to flip. Rate yourself honestly:
Again — you forgot or got it wrong. Card returns in ~1 minute.
Good — you got it right with some effort.
Great — you got it easily. Card interval grows significantly.

Cards become Mature (✨) once their interval exceeds 21 days — that means the knowledge is entering long-term memory. Your mastery % on the Progress screen tracks mature cards.
Guide to IAST transliteration
IAST (International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration) lets you read Sanskrit sounds precisely without knowing Devanagari. Key marks:

Long vowels: ā (आ), ī (ई), ū (ऊ) — held twice as long as short vowels.
Retroflexes: ṭ ṭh ḍ ḍh ṇ — dot below, tongue curled back.
Palatals: ś (श) = "sh"; c (च) = "ch"; j (ज) = "j".
Sibilants: s (स) = dental "s"; ś (श) = palatal "sh"; ṣ (ष) = retroflex "sh".
Aspirates: kh, gh, ch, jh, ṭh, ḍh, th, dh, ph, bh — the h is always pronounced as a breath.
Anusvāra: ṃ (ं) — nasal sound before consonants.
Visarga: ḥ (ः) — a light breath at the end of a word, like "Rāmaḥ".

Tip: Start by learning just ā, ī, ū and the retroflex dots — these cover most of the differences from English spelling.
Sources — where does the knowledge come from?
The app's vocabulary, grammar, and example sentences draw on a tradition of classical Sanskrit scholarship spanning over 2,500 years. Key sources include:

अष्टाध्यायी (Aṣṭādhyāyī) — Pāṇini's foundational grammar (~500 BCE), the most precise linguistic treatise ever written. The 4,000 sūtras underlie all Sanskrit grammar rules in the app.

अमरकोश (Amarakośa) — The classical Sanskrit thesaurus (~4th–5th century CE) by Amarasiṃha. A primary source for vocabulary organisation by topic.

महाभाष्य (Mahābhāṣya) — Patañjali's great commentary on Pāṇini (~2nd century BCE). Used for understanding grammatical rules in context.

सिद्धान्तकौमुदी (Siddhāntakaumudī) — Bhaṭṭoji Dīkṣita's reorganisation of Pāṇinian grammar (17th century CE), the standard teaching text used in modern Sanskrit classrooms.

रघुवंश, मेघदूत, अभिज्ञानशाकुन्तलम् — Works of Kālidāsa (4th–5th century CE), from which illustrative example sentences and the verse collection are drawn.

Modern scholarship — Monier-Williams Sanskrit–English Dictionary (1899), Arthur Macdonell's Sanskrit Grammar, and Whitney's Sanskrit Grammar have informed definitions and explanations.

All factual content — words, meanings, grammar rules, verse attributions — belongs to this shared classical heritage and is not proprietary to any single modern source.
Grammar reference glossary
विभक्ति (Vibhakti) — Grammatical case. Sanskrit has 8 cases (प्रथमा to सम्बोधन) that show a word's role in a sentence.

लिङ्ग (Liṅga) — Gender: पुल्लिङ्ग (m.), स्त्रीलिङ्ग (f.), नपुंसकलिङ्ग (n.).

वचन (Vacana) — Number: एकवचन (singular), द्विवचन (dual), बहुवचन (plural).

धातु (Dhātu) — Verb root. All Sanskrit verbs derive from ~2000 roots. E.g. √गम् = to go, √पठ् = to read.

लकार (Lakāra) — Verb tense/mood. लट् = present, लङ् = past, लृट् = future, लोट् = imperative.

सन्धि (Sandhi) — Sound changes when words meet. E.g. अ + इ = ए (vowel sandhi).

समास (Samāsa) — Compound words. Types include द्वन्द्व (and-compounds), तत्पुरुष (possessive), बहुव्रीहि (relative).

कृदन्त (Kṛdanta) — Verbal derivatives: participles, infinitives, gerunds formed from roots.

FAQ ▾
Is this app aligned with the CBSE Sanskrit syllabus?
Yes. The three tracks map directly to the CBSE Sanskrit syllabus for Classes 6–10. The Beginner track covers Classes 6–7, Intermediate covers Classes 8–9, and Advanced covers Class 9–10 board-exam content including all required grammar topics — vibhakti, sandhi, samāsa, kṛdanta, and reading comprehension.
How accurate is the Sanskrit content?
The grammar explanations follow standard Pāṇinian terminology and NCERT conventions. All content has been written with care, but Sanskrit is a deep subject. If you spot an error, please write to us — we take corrections seriously and update the app promptly.
Does the app work offline? Is my data private?
The app is a single HTML file — it works entirely offline after the first load. All your progress is stored only on your device using your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to any server. We collect no data, track no users, and have no analytics.
Is this a subscription? Can I cancel?
Yes — aiSwadhyay — Win Sanskrit uses a subscription model so your child has year-round access, which is how language learning actually works.

मासिक · Monthly — ₹299/month · $3.99/mo. Cancel anytime.
वार्षिक · Yearly — ₹1,399/year · $16.99/yr. Best value — equivalent to just ₹116/month.

I found a mistake or problem — how do I report it?
Scroll down to the 🔍 समस्या / गलती · Report card on this screen. It collects the right details and automatically includes your device and app information so we can reproduce the issue quickly.
Can I use this alongside my school textbook?
Absolutely — that is the intended use. The lessons follow the same sequence as the NCERT Ruchira series. Use the app to understand grammar concepts deeply, then apply them to your textbook exercises. The SRS flashcards are especially useful before exams.
Is Devanagari script required? I can't read it yet.
Not at all. Every word and example appears in both Devanagari and IAST romanisation. You can follow the entire Beginner track using IAST alone. Devanagari becomes natural gradually — the app is designed so that the two scripts reinforce each other.
Will there be more content? What's coming next?
Yes. Planned additions include a conversational Sanskrit module (संवाद-पथ), a Gurukul gamification layer, verse memorisation tools for Bhagavad Gītā and Hitopadeśa, and Hindi / Marathi Swadhyaya companion apps. Paid-track users get all content updates free.
